As a Program Assistant for CVDPN, students will be trained the basics of disaster preparedness to then construct a wealth of knowledge which will be utilized toward community engagement opportunities, such as: community outreach, multi-agency networking, and exploring opportunities to develop their own personal disaster plan. In addition, students will be assigned opportunities to assist in event development, which includes but not limited to; assist with promoting community events, event set-up, itinerary suggestions, and other components that attribute to successful event coordination. Lastly, students will be assigned clerical duties as needed, such as but not limited to; data entry, statistical reporting, and will be exposed to the practical methods of assisting a successful non-profit organization.
Attend community events with other organizational members; greet community members; provide informational material kits, referrals, etc. to members of the community; attend disaster training events with other organizational members (at the discretion of the student); answer email requests; and develop an email and phone list database.
Upon completing the academic semester, students will be most confident to have attributed to multiple standards of professionalism, which will be demonstrated in the student's ability to: understand the importance of community; have developed a network of professional contacts; demonstrate the ability to commence and complete a project successfully; demonstrate a stronger effective communication skill5555; and have an understanding on how a non-profit organization operates successfully.
Requirements*intermediate to advanced level - PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and writing skills. Preferred (not required) - Spanish-speaking
