Indio Police Department Intern

DEFINITION:
The City of Indio Intern Program is a continuous, as-needed, opportunity for both highly motivated and aspiring undergraduates and graduate interns. This is an exciting opportunity for students to gain paid experience and on-the-job training at a government entity.
As one of the largest employers in the Coachella Valley, the City of Indio offers potential Interns the opportunity to work in a variety of fields throughout our Departments.
The City of Indio Internship Program will give candidates the opportunity to develop in areas such as skills, personal development, and life experiences guided by an assigned mentor. 
SCHEDULE:
  • The Program is a 12-week assignment, not to exceed 120 total hours without prior approval.
  • Typical work week shall between 10-15 hours per week.
  • Interns will be given the opportunity to work flexible hours. The working times must be within the days of Monday through Friday from the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • Interns working five (5) hours per day must take a minimum thirty (30) minute/maximum sixty (60) minute, non-paid lunch break. Interns working eight (8) hours per day will be given two 15-minute breaks and must take a non-paid lunch break.
  • Management has the discretion to dictate the number of hours that the Intern will complete each week.
Duties
Applicants get the opportunity to learn and develop skills in the below areas and will assist in the below:
  • Performs a wide variety of administrative, project-related, and department-specific assignments to receive on-the-job exposure to municipal government processes, projects, programs, and issues.
  • Assists the Police Department in researching current issues.
  • Performs entry-level program analysis, comparative study and research, and various statistical analyses to complete assigned tasks.
  • Discusses findings with management staff and prepares reports of study conclusions.
  • Researches, writes, and presents reports and recommendations on various community & policing issues.
  • Performs a variety of administrative and/or technical tasks in support of City programs; assists the public.
  • Assists in the coordination of data acquisition and materials development for various departments and assigned projects.
  • Supports projects and activities across multiple City departments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
  • A completed online application must be submitted along with the completion of the supplemental questionnaire.
  • A cover letter, resume, and copy of latest school transcripts must be attached to application.
  • The Internship Program is open only to currently enrolled students either pursuing an Associate, Undergraduate or Graduate degree. A student may either be attending school on a full-time or part-time status.
  • No less than an overall C (2.0) grade point average (GPA).
  • If attending College of the Desert, must be able to enroll in a 2-unit Summer Work Experience course to earn academic credit while interning.
  • Summer Session: June 12 - August 3, 2023
  • Must pass a criminal background screening.
